MAY THE PASSION OF JESUS CHRIST AND THE SORROWS OF MARY BE ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS.
“Within the Church, the Passionist Nuns are called to be a sign of the love of Jesus Crucified for the Father and for mankind. By their unceasing contemplation of the Paschal Mystery of Jesus, “the greatest and most overwhelming work of God’s love” they are certain of contributing to the fullness of the Church’s presence to mankind."
Passionist Rule #4
The Passionist Nuns vow to live in the light of this self sacrificing love of Jesus and keep alive the memory of the Passion of Jesus Christ.
History
In 1720, St. Paul of the Cross founded the Congregation of the Passion. Foremost in Paul's spirituality was the Passion of Christ. His desire was to gather around him companions who saw the Passion of Jesus as God's love-message to them and the world. When the men's congregation was established, St. Paul then focused his attention on founding a Passionist contemplative community of women, which were founded in 1771. These "Doves of Calvary" were to be dedicated to holiness hidden in the cross of Jesus Christ for the sole and pure glory of God. Their calling was to stand at the foot of the Cross with our Sorrowful Mother and, with her, keep alive the memory of the self-sacrificing love of Jesus Crucified.
